Just when you were like "oh cool, AutoPkgr and Zapier can work together to do a thing," AutoPkgr goes like "you don't need Zapier anymore, fools."
Enter AutoPkgr 1.3, which includes webhook settings to allow instant communication with Slack and Hipchat, as well as Mac OS X Notifications. I love finding ways to not get emails, so this is really great for me and my sanity. It's also really easy to set up.
When you upgrade AutoPkgr to 1.3, you'll see the new options in the Notifications tab (fancy!). Click on the checkbox next to Slack (or HipChat, but this guide will use Slack) and you'll get a spot to enter a webhook URL.
Head over to your Slack services/integrations settings and find the Incoming Webhook settings.
Select a channel you want the WebHook to send data to, then proceed to the next page where you'll get a URL to use with your service.
(No, you can't use my WebHook!)
Copy this URL and head back over to AutoPkgr and enter it in the provided field.
Now you're pretty much ready to use it! You can scroll down in the Slack WebHook settings to configure the bot name, icon, and description. Once you make it pretty, you can click Send Test in AutoPkgr to see how it looks.
Assuming you copy-pasta'd correctly, you should get a neat little notification in your Slack channel of choice.
And that's it! No taking up zaps in Zapier, no relying on email, just a quick notification directly into Slack via WebHook. It's like magic but easier and therefore better.
Thanks again to the Linde Group for making such a great tool and adding useful/fun features that make life as a mac admin easier! Also, thanks to Tim Sutton and Greg Neagle for AutoPkg!
