This week the lovely ladies behind A Beautiful Mess have made a great little iPhone photo app! What's great about it, though, is that it's more than just for adding filters to photos. It's like a scrapbooking app, where you can take pre-existing images and add great doodles, orders, and text.

The app has some pre-set phrases in Elsie's adorable handwriting (like the Hello!) above, as well as an assortment of borders, arrows, flowers, hearts…super cute stuff. All of it.
[caption id="attachment_2482" align="aligncenter" width="500"] yum![/caption]

It's a brand-new app, so hopefully they will continually develop it. There are a few things that are a bit annoying:
- When resizing a picture/base, the app doesn't automatically pop the image back "inbounds" if it goes off the canvas. Meaning you can end up with white lines on the edges if you crop too closely to the original image dimensions.
- Speaking of choosing pictures, you can't take a new picture with the app. It only manipulates pictures in the camera roll.
- Resizing with pinching is great for text and doodles, but you can't pinch anywhere on the canvas to shrink a doodle or text. Only on the item itself. So if you have chubby fingers like me, you can't really shrink text down. Ever.
- Text entry is only a single line. So if you want to do multiple lines you have to enter them all individually. And since resizing can be tricky, that means you're not guaranteed to have the text be the same size on each line.
- As soon as a border, text line, or doodle is added, it is permanently added to the picture. As soon as you render something it's flattened onto the picture. I can't imagine that's good for picture quality, and if you mess something up or change your mind you have to start over again.
- The filters are boring.

That said, it does a whole lot of things right.
- Everything you add to an image can be resized and have its color changed.
- Everything is really adorable.
- The extra font, doodle, and border packs are only ¢99, so it's really cheap to gets tons of great extras.
- The app features a slew of "backgrounds" that you can use as bases rather than photographs. This is probably the coolest feature! You can make all sorts of cool scrapbook-style blogging images.

So fun! It's like a digital scrapbooking app. It has some updates needed to improve use, but it has lots of potential and is definitely great blogging! I can't wait to see what ABM comes up with next! You can pick it up through the iTunes store here.
