The 24 Hours of Gallifrey One have come and gone and so begins a series of posts that reflect on this year's convention. It was bigger than ever, with nearly 3600 attendees, a slew of amazing guests, and some of the most innovative and fun costumes yet.
I'm relatively new to Vine, but nevertheless found it very fun to use for capturing the dynamic nature of this year's cosplaying. Still pictures are great, but sometimes seeing the costumes and cosplayers in action helps really give them substance and character.
My first go was to capture some of the TARDIS 2 building (I held stuff, so helpful!). Here, Tara and friends are putting the top on the TARDIS:
Not long after I captured some of the Radio Free Skaro "screen saver" for funsies:
Without knowing that Vine doesn't compensate for turning your iPhone to the side, I recorded a quick bit, like an animated panorama, to show how jam-packed Program A was for the opening ceremony on Friday night:
On Friday night I captured a wibbly wobbly toddler version of the Eleventh Doctor:
Saturday I ran into some Daleks:
And here, if you look very carefully, you'll see a small girl inside claiming she is not a Dalek:
Here I tried to capture how clever this Clockwork Droid cosplay is. The head is attached by metal poles. And yes, I'm pretty sure there is a person inside:
A flying TARDIS mocks a Dalek:
And on Sunday some fantastic, fan-built costumes paraded down the hallway for Ed Stradling and his Gally video:
I think the K-1 Robot was my favorite of the weekend. Though naturally Mette and Bryan made the most stunningly beautiful and masterfully crafted costume recreations of the weekend. Because they kick ass.
Stay tuned for more! Hooray Gally1!

Yay! Fantastic vids! My phone battery was drained by late Saturday night, so I didn't capture all the amazing costumes after the masquerade. As I usually do, though, I cede image capture to those better equipped for it! So thanks for sharing these!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I think Vine has a lot of potential. Much like Twitter forcing folks to be concise and direct with words, I feel Vine does the same with moving imagery. Plus so many of these chance encounters in the hallways are so fleeting…6 seconds of video is perfect for that!
