Yarn bowls are silly. Pure, unadultered silliness. But like some silly things they still manage to serve a purpose … for knitters and crocheters. Yarn bowls are handmade, thrown clay pots with slits and holes on the sides meant to control the flow of yarn from a wound ball. The live yarn feeds through a hole or slit, which lets the ball itself tumble around inside the bowl without flying all over the floor or being relegated to a ziplock baggie.

There are TONS of gorgeous handmade yarn bowls on Etsy.

I've always been partial to stoneware and matte finish, and there are plenty to choose from. You can find one in a color your favorite crafter likes, or one with motifs and finishes that contain imagery your knitter or crocheter friend enjoys (like I'm a sucker for cats, elephants, and owls!).
If you prefer shopping local, we carry yarn bowls at Hill Country Weavers! Stop by the shop to check them out (they're super cute!).
