While on holiday this month I picked up a neat looking "square" crochet hook from Stitch Café in Valley Village, CA. I've been on a big crochet kick lately and couldn't pass on the novelty.
I managed to give it a whirl shortly after the purchase, using it to make a provisional cast-on for a Lanesplitter skirt (I'll talk more about my modifications to that pattern later). Unfortunately it doesn't use the squareness to its advantage. The pronounce double-curved thumb rest helps with a consistent hold, but the hook itself is too short for the squareness to be any use. And the rest of the handle is quite uncomfortable to hold because the handle is far too thick which makes the angles of the square press into your hand in an awkward way.
Hate to say it, but pass this one by if you're a crocheter. I have yet to find a hook as nice as the Clover Soft Touch hooks.
