Now now, hate is a strong word. And I have to say that I don’t watch shows that I dislike, and I don’t like judging shows that I haven’t seen. But there is one show that I’ve avoided at all costs:

American Idol.
I despise this show. The whole premise. The hype. The ridiculous advertising. The hosts. The perpetuation of unoriginal, uninspired music-making. Instead of rehashing top 40 hits why not praise people that come in and perform their own music? Maybe that’s a part of the show that I don’t know about, but based on everything I’ve seen, all they do is sing well-known pop tunes. And when they make it big? They just sing songs written by other people. They’re an empty vessel with a pretty voice. Well, that last part is subjective. I haven’t really heard anyone sing from that show that I’ve thought OMG WHAT A VOICE. And seriously. Who cares about Paula Abdul. Unless she’s singing to a cartoon cat about opposites attracting.
