I like to use my summer holiday to do things I don't get to do during the year. Like knit. And yeah, I do knit during the year, but not nearly as much as I want to.
For example, take this shawl I just finished.

During the school year it would probably take me at least two months to knit this. But during the summer it only took me four days.
The pattern is Ishbel by Ysolda Teague. I made the smaller version and used one skein of Noro Silk Garden Sock. And I am ridiculously in love with it. If it weren't 102ΒΊ outside today I'd wear it around everywhere.

I wish it wasn't so damn hot outside. Oh well. That's what I get for living in Texas.

Hi Emily, I just found your ishbel on ravelry and followed links here. It's gorgeous! I have just cast one on in silk garden sock in blues/purples, and am wondering if yours curls round a lot on the top garter stitch edge? I don't know if it's my tension or the yarn (not stretchy) but mine is curving round a lot and I'm not sure I want a shawl that curls round in a circle... did yours do this? I haven't seen any pictures of one laid out flat!
ReplyDeleteWould love some reassurance.... Thanks!
Lucy
Well, it's not a straight line on the edge of the shawl. It's meant to curve a but, though it's definitely not circular. It has kind of a swallowtail kind of thing, if that makes sense. When you block it, make sure you pin the edge as straight as you can. That'll help. Blocking is magical! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm onto the lace section now, and bizarrely it does seem straighter already than it did earlier on... I guess I'll just have to wait and see how it turns out. Thanks for the encouragement!
ReplyDeleteOh that is so lovely!!! You are on fire too, look at all those FO's!
